2023 grants announced: National Life Group Foundation awards over $1.4M to 119 organizations battling hunger and supporting youth mental health

Montpelier, VT - (July 31, 2023) The National Life Group Foundation announced more than $1.4 million going to 119 grant recipients in this year’s grant cycle dispersed last month.

Created in 2006, the Foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations primarily in central and northern Vermont and the Dallas, Texas area where the company has offices, with a focus on ending childhood hunger and supporting youth mental health.

Breakdown of funds:

  • $701,250 supports ending childhood hunger
  • $596,500 supports youth mental health
  • $115,500 supports community development

“We were humbled and inspired to learn about the programs that are doing so much good in our communities,” said Beth Rusnock, president of the National Life Group Foundation. “To support many of these programs with grants is a testament to the servant leadership culture National Life has had for the past 175 years.”

These 16 organizations are top recipients:

  • Capstone Community Action (Central Vermont)
  • Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, Inc. (CVOEO)
  • Children’s Hospital Corporation dba Boston Children's Hospital (serving the Dallas area)
  • Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region
  • Family Place, Inc. (Dallas, Texas)
  • Hunger Free Vermont
  • King Street Center (Burlington, Vermont)
  • Montpelier Alive
  • Montpelier Senior Activity Center
  • North Texas Food Bank
  • Parkland Foundation (Dallas, Texas)
  • Prevent Child Abuse Vermont
  • Spectrum Youth & Family Services (Northern Vermont)
  • Vermont Council on Rural Development
  • Vermont Foodbank
  • Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC)

To be considered for a grant, an organization must be a public charity which is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
