Montpelier, VT (May 4, 2020) - The National Life Group Foundation has approved more than $600,000 in new grants responding to the Covid-19 crisis, bringing to nearly $1 million the company’s support for agencies involved in relief from the virus.
The money ranges from grants for hunger relief organizations to support for agencies focused on responding to the economic fallout associated with the disease.
The largest grants in this round went to hunger relief organizations. The Vermont Foodbank, the North Texas Food Bank and Hunger Free Vermont each were granted $100,000.
“Each of these agencies has been at the forefront of responding to the Covid-19 crisis,” said Mehran Assadi, Chairman, President and CEO of National Life Group. “National Life is committed to supporting their vital work.”
A total of 22 grants were awarded in this round. Other agencies that are receiving funding include Capstone Community Action, Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, Vermont Council on Rural Development, The Family Place, and Spectrum Youth and Family Services.
“Our goal is to support the immediate urgent work of these nonprofits, as well as medium-term and long-term assistance that they anticipate they will need to provide,” said Beth Rusnock, President of the National Life Foundation. “We continue to review grant requests and expect to be making more awards in coming weeks.”
The National Life Foundation previously committed to supporting the VT Covid-19 Response Fund and the North Texas Community Response Fund. The Foundation has also supported meals for essential workers, food donations and donations of computers to social service agency clients who will use them for tele-health appointments.
